Moscow Savanna

Blanchardville, WI (2005-09)

ERS began work in 2005 on a 20 acre oak savanna restoration in the rollings hills south of Blue Mounds. Logging box elder trees, which have filled in the once open savanna, is the main project. As the majestic oaks, hickories and black cherries are given stretching room and prescribed burning returns to the landscape, we expect remnant wildflowers and grasses to awaken from the seed bank and wildlife diversity to increase in this federally endangered ecosystem.  40 acres of tallgrass prairie also provide important habitat for rare grassland birds.
